WE ARE WATER – Closer by Zoltan Rendes

We’ve just spent an hour diving deep into the global water crisis with Michael Zelniker, and here’s the harsh truth: if you’re still treating water like it’s infinite or disposable, you’ve missed the wake‑up call.

It’s not “a resource.” It’s the fragile thread holding everything together, it is the thin blue line between civilisation and collapse—your morning coffee, a child’s first drink, entire communities walking hours for jerry cans of brown, tainted water that makes their families sick.  Women and girls collectively spend 250 million hours every day fetching it, often at great risk, while we in the Global North flush it away without a thought.  And rivers get sucked dry, bottled in plastic, sold back to the poor for profit, leaving ecosystems choked for centuries.

But listen—this isn’t just doom. It’s a mirror to our choices. We built this mess, turning life’s essence into a commodity. And we can unbuild it.  Michael saw it everywhere, from Mexico through Rwanda to India: the real solutions aren’t waiting in boardrooms. They’re already in the hands of frontline communities who know their waters intimately and are fighting for them with everything they’ve got.

You don’t need permission from governments or corporations. You are part of the eight billion who decide if this changes.  Ditch the plastic bottles. Support water defenders with your wallet and votes. Live like water is what it is: a common good, a public trust, a human right.

We’re endangered species, no question. But we’re also the ones who can choose to remember: without water, there is no us.  The question now is yours: will you be the problem that poisons Mother Water… or the ally that protects it?

My bet is still on You!

Until next time…goodbye!
